There was a recent article in The Washington Post about a very popular social media influencer who does food reviews from his car, as many popular food reviewers do. The writer talked about how that style of filming makes things feel personal because a car is such an intimate space.
For me, what’s interesting about this is that while a car feels personal, we’re out in public when we’re in it—driving around, going from place to place, or parking. It reminded me of how often, ever since I got my license in high school, I’ve used drives to think, solve problems, or just be alone with my thoughts. There’s something about driving down a road, seeing new or familiar things, that gives me space and time to reflect.
If you haven’t taken a drive recently to clear your mind, solve a problem, or just be alone with your thoughts, it’s worth considering. It’s interesting how having no specific destination can sometimes help us arrive at the right place mentally.
