The Aloha Stamp
September 16, 2026There’s something about a milestone that makes you stop and look back.
I’m a big fan of milestones, and I recently reached one that felt particularly good: 365 weekly videos. That’s one for every day of the year.
When we started making these short weekly videos several years ago, we didn’t know exactly where they would lead. The idea was simply to share something interesting or helpful from the worlds of psychology and leadership each week.
Over time, that simple idea became a routine I’ve greatly enjoyed. It has given me the opportunity to regularly share ideas, observations, and lessons with people who have chosen to spend a minute or two with me.
And that may be one of the most useful things about milestones. They remind us that meaningful accomplishments don’t always begin with a grand plan. Sometimes they begin with something worthwhile that we decide to keep doing.
That lesson applies to leadership, too. Progress is often the result of small actions repeated consistently over time.
Leaders can apply that idea in several ways:
- Create useful routines. Identify a few leadership behaviors that matter, such as checking in with employees, reviewing priorities, or providing feedback, and make them regular habits.
- Notice progress along the way. Milestones provide a natural opportunity to recognize what you and your team have accomplished rather than immediately moving on to the next objective.
- Keep showing up. Not every worthwhile effort produces an immediate result. Consistent attention to important goals, relationships, and responsibilities can have a significant cumulative impact.
We didn’t know where this particular journey would lead when we started. I’m simply glad we kept going.
