The Walk Off

One of my favorite terms from the world of sports, particularly baseball, is the “walk-off run.” It happens in the last inning for the home team when they are tied and score to win. Reportedly, the term was coined by pitcher Dennis Eckersley. He used it to describe home runs that were hit so far out that, as a pitcher, it wasn’t worth looking back—you just walk off the mound and out of the game because it’s over.

I think in life, there are moments when a situation is so far gone or so over that we can walk off from it too. Whether it’s a relationship issue, a work issue, or another challenge in life, recognizing when there’s no reason to look back and just walking away can be great advice.
